A graduate course that treats the Earth as one system of interacting parts linked by flows of energy and matter. Topics include systems thinking, energy and matter, Earth in space and geologic time, plate tectonics, earthquakes and volcanoes, the rock cycle, the hydrologic cycle, ice and the oceans, the atmosphere, weather and climate, the origin of life, ecosystems and biogeochemical cycles, populations and communities, natural resources, and global change in the human era.
