Join us
For prospective graduate students and undergraduate researchers.
We welcome students who want to understand how water moves through the land and the atmosphere, and how that knowledge can inform decisions about water.
What we expect
- Ask your own questions. Research begins with a question you care about. We expect you to turn a broad topic into questions that can be tested, and to refine them as you learn.
- Work with code and data. Most of our work involves observations, climate model output, and models. You do not need to be an expert on day one, but you should be willing to learn programming and to handle data carefully and reproducibly.
- Take responsibility for your results. Check your work, understand the assumptions behind your methods, and be ready to explain and defend your findings honestly, including when they are not what you hoped for.
What I commit
- Regular meetings. I meet with each student regularly to discuss progress, problems, and next steps.
- Guidance on research direction. I help you choose a research topic, plan your work, and develop it into papers and a thesis.
- Opportunities to present. Students present their work at domestic and international conferences.
